Energy Efficiency Grant

Income-qualified, energy-efficiency grants may be available for owner-occupied properties to replace windows and upgrade insulation that could cover the majority of the costs of making energy efficiency improvements. Grant recipients are not eligible for rebates or zero-interest loans.

Grant Program Eligibility Requirements:

  • Insulation upgrades
  • Window replacement

If approved for a grant, customers do not need to repay the funds received, but may be responsible for minimal fees depending on the type of work performed. 

Interested customers must submit a grant application to verify eligibility and receive approval. Often, your contractor will help you complete the application. It may take us 4-6 weeks to process your application once it is received. 

To qualify, applicants must prove that 80% of their gross monthly income falls below the amounts listed in the following table, based on applicable household size. A deduction credit will be applied to earned income (20% deduction) and retirement income (10% deduction) that is taxed at the time of payout.

Grant Eligibility Requirements

To verify the size of the household, we require identification documentation for each household member.  Each member of the household must provide income information for the most recent, consecutive three months. Income sources may include:

  • Paycheck Stubs
  • Child Support
  • SSI/SSDI Award Letter
  • Retirement Pension/IRA
  • Interest/Dividends/Annuities
  • DSHS (Lifeline/GAU, TANF)
  • State Labor & Industry (L&I) or VA
  • Unemployment Compensation
  • Rental Property Income
  • Self-Employment Income Verification

Household members 18 years and older listed as having zero or undeclared income must provide a verifiable statement of information on how they have been able to meet their basic living needs, such as food and shelter.

If you feel your property meets the eligibility requirements, contact a Tacoma Power participating contractor to schedule a free estimate. They can also evaluate your home or property to help determine which of our programs would best meet your needs.

  • Contractor - your contractor may offer to submit the application directly to Tacoma Power
