ENERGY STAR Certified Products consume less water and energy on average than standard models. Perfect for small, large, and multifamily property businesses.
Commercial kitchen rebate details
Tacoma Water offers business and multifamily customers a rebate of up to $2,000 per account for one or more qualifying ENERGY STAR-certified commercial kitchen products. You can install the equipment yourself or hire a contractor. The rebate is limited to one rebate for up to four products per account each year.*
Rebate requirements
- Only products on the ENERGY STAR-Certified Product list for dishwashers, ice machines, steam cookers, and combination ovens with steam cooking functionality are eligible for this Rebate.
- The name on the Commercial Kitchen Rebate Application must be of an authorized customer associated with an active, non-residential Tacoma Water account.
- Not eligible: Ovens that are NOT Combination ovens with steam cooking functionality.

How to apply for a rebate

Complete the application
Complete the Commercial Kitchen Rebate Application. We will only accept applications within 12 months of installation completion.

Attach proof of purchase
Attach copies of invoices or receipts for the eligible product or products you purchased.

Submit your application
Select Submit when your application is complete.

Watch for an email
We will email you if your application is approved or if we need more information. If approved, you will receive an email from Tacoma Water through DocuSign asking you to sign the rebate agreement.
If your application requires an inspection, is incomplete, or you are not eligible, you will receive an email from conservation@tacoma.gov with next steps.

Sign the rebate agreement
Sign and submit the agreement through DocuSign.
Allow about 8 to 12 weeks for the approved rebate to appear on your Tacoma Water bill.

ENERGY STAR-certified commercial kitchen products use less water and energy than standard models.
- ENERGY STAR certified dishwashers are about 12 percent more energy efficient and 50 percent more water efficient than standard models.
- ENERGY STAR certified steam cookers are up to 60 percent more energy efficient and up to 90 percent more water efficient than standard models.
- ENERGY STAR certified batch-type ice makers are about 10 percent more energy efficient and 20 percent more water efficient when compared with standard models, and ENERGY STAR certified continuous-type ice makers are about 16 percent more energy-efficient.
- ENERGY STAR certified commercial ovens are eligible for ENERGY STAR certification by achieving idle and cooking energy efficiency levels in both convection mode and steam mode, as well as a limit on water consumption rates in both steam and convection modes during cooking periods.

Yes, renters who are Tacoma Water business customers are eligible for this rebate.

No. The applicant must be an authorized customer on a nonresidential Tacoma Water account with a Residential Multifamily rate category for four or more units or a Commercial rate category.

Applications are accepted up to 12 months after installation. The product purchase date may be more than 12 months before the application date.

No. The rebate will appear as a credit on your Tacoma Public Utilities business account about 8 to12 weeks after processing.

Tacoma Water may require an inspection if the application is incomplete or if we need more information. If an inspection cannot be completed, Tacoma Water may withdraw the rebate.

Yes. Customers who do not have an email address can call 253-502-8723 or visit the Tacoma Public Utilities lobby to request a paper application. The rebate will be applied to the account as a credit. No check will be mailed.
