Our Policy

The City of Tacoma is committed to ensuring all City websites are accessible for all people regardless of ability or access method. We strive to conform to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Accessibility Initiative’s (WAI) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. In order to achieve and maintain this high standard, the City of Tacoma has established a Web Governance Team comprised of City staff and members from the disability community.

Our Goal

We want to ensure that everyone has equal access to information and can fully participate in government. Our goal is to create websites that are usable and accessible by complying with the City of Tacoma Minimum Web Requirements and the W3C WAI’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. We are committed to upholding the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act  and the Department of Justice web accessibility directives.

Accessibility Barriers

We are in the process of assessing, prioritizing and updating all City websites. As a result, we are in varying stages of progress toward our accessibility goal.

Due to conditions beyond our control, there are some instances where we are unable to provide information in an accessible format (for example, our mapping information). We will be monitoring these sections and will develop an accessible solution as technology improves.
