We Rely on Water Every Day

Our water originates from diverse sources, such as the Green River and our prolific groundwater supply. The status of our water supply depends on many factors, including snowpack, rainfall, Green River flows, reservoir levels, and daily water consumption. Our experts gather data daily and update our current conditions each week so we can inform you about trends and supply forecasts. Read about our changing water supply and what it means for you.

Where Your Water Comes From

We are fortunate to have surface water and groundwater for operational flexibility and growth. The Green River Municipal Watershed has been Tacoma Water’s primary water supply since 1913. The watershed is located in the Cascade Mountains and covers about 148,000 acres of forestland. We also operate seven wells within the watershed and own 24 wells in and around Tacoma that help contribute to our water supply. Explore our water sources.
