Alder Lake Park is located about 10 miles south of Eatonville on the northern end of Alder Lake, formed by Alder Dam in 1945. The dam generates clean, renewable hydropower while supporting year-round recreation for the public.

Visitors can enjoy a range of outdoor recreation, including camping, boating, swimming, and fishing.

The park also includes:

  • Rocky Point Campground, located about 4 miles east of the main park entrance

  • Sunny Beach Point, a 9-acre day-use area about a half-mile east of the main entrance

Boat launch access, swim areas, and lake levels may vary throughout the year. Get information about day-use and boat launch availability.

Camping at Alder Lake Park

Campsites are available across multiple campgrounds, including Main, Osprey, Elk Plain, Rocky Point, and group camps. Options include full hookups, partial hookups, tent sites, and group camping.

All standard campsites include:

  • Fire rings or barbecue grills

  • Picnic tables

  • Coin-operated showers

  • Wheelchair-accessible restrooms

  • Water faucets throughout the campground

Individual campsites

  • 35 with water, electric, and sewer hookups

  • 74 with water and electric hookups

  • 62 tent sites

Group camps

  • The 35-site group camp is open April 15–Oct. 15.

  • Group camp amenities include:

    • Pods of five campsites with water, electric, and sewer hookups

    • Picnic tables and individual fire rings at each site

    • Community fire rings

    • Horseshoe pits and a playground

    • Restrooms with showers

Kitchen Shelters

  • Kitchen shelters include barbecue grills, a sink, and electrical outlets

  • Group Camps G1–G4 may reserve the large kitchen shelter (if available) for one meal per day (breakfast, lunch, or dinner)

  • Group Camps G5–G7 each have access to one small kitchen shelter per five-site area

Camping at Rocky Point

Rocky Point Campground is part of Alder Lake Park and is located about four miles east of the main park entrance along Highway 7.

Features include:

  • 25 campsites with water and electric hookups

  • Picnic area

  • Free use of the dump station at the main Alder Lake Campground

  • Free boat launch (lake level permitting)

Alder Lake Park Day Use
  • Alder Lake Park offers day-use access to Alder Lake, with facilities and recreation available seasonally and year-round, depending on lake levels.

    Features

    • Two boat launches available year-round, lake level permitting

    • Fishing access for kokanee and other species

    • Open to motorized watercraft

    • One no-wake zone and two designated non-motorized areas

    Rules & Fees

    • Parking fee: $10 on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays between Memorial Day and Labor Day

    • Parking availability is limited; when day-use areas are full, additional visitors may be turned away

Sunny Beach Point Day Use

Sunny Beach Point is a 9-acre day-use park located about ½ mile east of the Alder Lake Park entrance on State Highway 7. It is open May 15–Sept. 15, lake level permitting.

  • Swim and sunning area (lake level permitting)

  • Picnic shelter and 20 picnic sites with tables and grills

  • Restrooms

Rules

  • Free day use

  • Alcoholic beverages are not permitted

  • Parking fee: $10 on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays between Memorial Day and Labor Day

  • Parking availability is limited; when day-use areas are full, additional visitors may be turned away

  • Seasonal closure: Dec. 20–Jan. 1

Driving Directions

From Tacoma, take I-5 south to State Route 512. Travel east on SR 512 about 2 miles to the Pacific Avenue exit (SR 7). Go south on SR 7 about 27 miles. Turn right at the Alder Lake Park sign (at School Road) and drive into the park.

Sunny Beach Point is located about a half-mile east of the main Alder Lake Park entrance on State Highway 7.

To reach Rocky Point Campground, continue south on Highway 7. Rocky Point is located on the right about 4 miles beyond the main Alder Lake Park entrance.
