Wholesale Power

At times, Tacoma Power has surplus electrical energy to sell. We could have availability for durations of one day or longer, depending on the circumstances. Available quantities and prices of surplus energy also vary based on the circumstances.

Tacoma Power makes surplus energy sales under terms consistent with Bonneville Power Administration’s Policy on Determining Net Requirements of Pacific Northwest Utility Customers under Sections 5(b)(1) and 9(c) of the Northwest Power Act.

We accept requests for specific surplus energy Monday through Friday, through 2 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. Requests must be made by email to dayahead@cityoftacoma.org.

If no qualified regional entity submits a valid request by email for surplus electric energy, the surplus electric energy may be available for sale to entities outside the region.
