Wholesale Power

At times, Tacoma Power has surplus electrical energy to sell. We may have availability for periods of one day or longer, depending on the circumstances. Available quantities and prices of surplus energy also vary based on the circumstances.

Tacoma Power sells surplus energy under terms consistent with the Bonneville Power Administration’s Policy on Determining Net Requirements of Pacific Northwest Utility Customers, under Sections 5(b)(1) and 9(c) of the Northwest Power Act.

We accept requests for specific surplus energy Monday through Friday, by 2 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. Submit requests by email to dayahead@tacoma.gov.

If no qualified regional entity submits a valid request by email for surplus electric energy, the surplus electric energy may be available for sale to entities outside the region.
