Save With Custom Projects

Energy-efficiency improvements can reduce maintenance and operations costs, lower your utility bills and help save energy. To make upgrading more affordable for your company, take advantage of Tacoma Power’s incentive programs for existing commercial, industrial and governmental buildings.

Our program incentive rate is 23 cents per kilowatt hour saved in the first year, up to 70% of the total approved project cost. As of Jan. 1, 2020, for qualified HVAC projects, we are now paying $0.30 per kilowatt-hour saved in the first year, up to 70% of the total approved project cost. Incentives may vary, so check with a Tacoma Power expert.

To help your company calculate the return on investment, contact a Tacoma Power expert. We can help quantify your energy savings, outline the scope of work and estimate the total project costs.

Incentive Eligibility Details

  • The existing commercial, industrial, or governmental building must be within Tacoma Power’s service territory. Not available for new construction.
  • All projects must be approved by Tacoma Power before equipment is installed.

Compressed Air

If your business uses compressed air, you could see considerable savings on your electric bill when you upgrade to energy-efficient equipment. How much could you save? Consider these facts:

  • If you have a 150-horsepower air compressor that runs 5,800 hours per year, you could save up to $9,100 in electric costs by improving the compressor’s air efficiency.
  • Reducing system pressure by two pounds per square inch can save you 1% of your annual electricity costs.
  • An air leak as small as a quarter inch in diameter can cost more than $6,600 in annual electricity costs.

We offer a rebate when you buy and install an efficient compressed air system. Eligible systems include:

  • Variable speed compressors
  • Controls with increased air receiver storage
  • Systems with distribution modifications
  • No-loss drains
  • Efficient nozzles
  • Mist eliminators

The incentive rate for the above items is 23 cents per first year kilowatt hour saved, up to 70% of the approved project cost.

We also offer the following rebates for energy assessments:

  • We will pay up to half of the cost of an assessment of your system, which will identify air leaks, inappropriate compressed air uses and other potential operational improvements.
  • For large-scale energy saving projects, we can pay up to half the cost of an energy study that can identify potential savings and incentive programs.

Both Tacoma Power customers and compressed air equipment vendors may participate in periodic training sponsored by Tacoma Power and conducted by certified Compressed Air Challenge (CAC) instructors. CAC is an independent, nonprofit organization funded by the Department of Energy, with no commercial bias. Both one-day basic overview sessions and a in-depth, two-day curriculum are available. Check our Training and Events page for upcoming opportunities.
