The Cowlitz River Project is part of an area rich in wildlife and fisheries resources. It is also an outdoor enthusiast's dream.

Balancing use, enhancement and preservation of fish and wildlife habitat is no easy task and one that Tacoma Power takes seriously.

Tacoma Power rebuilt the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery in 2010. A few miles down river you’ll find the Cowlitz Trout Hatchery. Tacoma Power owns both of these hatcheries and funds their operation by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

In addition to supporting anadromous salmon and steelhead fisheries, Tacoma Power funds programs for fisheries in Mayfield Lake and Riffe Lake.

Tacoma Power has dedicated more than 14,000 acres of land as the Cowlitz Wildlife Area. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife manages the wildlife area with funding from Tacoma Power.
