We are testing the flow and pressure throughout our entire water system between Oct. 2 and early November. V The tests will help us identify critical issues in our system that need immediate work, and will help us create a longer-term improvement plan so we can ensure safe and reliable water into the future.

Crew conducting flow and pressure testing

We will test at 150 sites. We may need to flush the system after completing each test. That can result in discolored water at your home or business – caused by rust and sediments being stirred up.

If your water is discolored:

  • Remove aerators from your faucets and run the cold water for a few minutes.
  • Wash dark clothes in your first load of laundry after the discoloration
  • Feel free to contact us if your water doesn’t clear up shortly after flushing. You can reach us between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at 253-502-8207 or waterquality@cityoftacoma.org, or call 253-502-8344 after 5 p.m.

Week of Oct. 16: We’ll be testing in areas around West End, South Tacoma and University Place.
