    • $1,000 per ton for heat pump retrofits
  • Variable refrigerant flow rebate of $400 per ton.

You can also submit your application to see if your project qualifies.

Include a quote or final invoice with your submission.

Advanced Rooftop Unit Control

An Advanced Rooftop Unit Control (ARC) is an energy-saving upgrade that works with constant volume, single-zone packaged rooftop unit (RTU) equipment. These controls, which are monitored via the Internet, work with various RTU manufacturers and can reduce utility expenses by more than 50%.

Tacoma Power will pay up to 100% of the project cost of an ARC for your business. Please see the ARC program application for rebate amounts.

ARCs vs. Standard RTUs

With a standard RTU, the supply fan operates continuously when your building is occupied. And since fan speed cannot be controlled, it supplies constant air volume whether the outdoor air damper is opened or closed. This makes it less efficient than an ARC.

An ARC offers the following benefits:

  • Variable fan speeds allow you to customize for different modes of operation such as ventilation or first or second stage heating or cooling.
  • Integrated air-side economizers control the flow of air with differential dry-bulb temperature control.
  • Demand-controlled ventilation uses a return-air carbon dioxide sensor to regulate outdoor air damper and fan speed controls, which ensures carbon dioxide levels do not exceed allowable limits.
