The EPA’s WaterSense® program promotes its annual Fix a Leak Week in March to encourage Americans to use water efficiently. By finding and fixing running toilets, leaky faucets, and dripping showerheads, a family can save as much as 10 percent on its utility bills and save water for future generations.

Tacoma Water’s Fix a Leak Week contest gives 3rd through 5th grade teachers and students a chance to win prizes for finding leaks and reporting them. Students can participate in as part of their class or on their own. Stories will be entered in prize drawings for individual students and classrooms. The contest begins Feb. 1 and ends April 11.

If you are in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade and want to participate, you should:

  1. Complete the Fix a Leak Week student worksheet.
  2. Write a story about how you looked for leaks, what you found and what you did to fix the leak. If you didn't find a leak you can write about what you would do if you found a leak.
