Recycle car wash water at home
Washing your car at home can use about 30 gallons of water. Use a bucket of soapy water to wash and a hose with a spray nozzle to rinse. Washing your vehicle on gravel or grass will prevent soapy water entering storm sewers and will help reuse the water.
Recycling water at commercial car washes
According to the International Care Wash Association, commercial car washes can use 50 to 85 gallons of water per wash. If you use a commercial car wash, try to find one that recycles its water. The recycle rate varies between 10 to 80 percent among car washes. Ask whether they recycle water from only a small portion of the wash cycle, or more portions of the cycle.
