On November 16, 2004, Tacoma Rail started providing service on three of the Burlington Northern Sante Fe (BNSF) distribution lines. The Capital Division interchanges rail cars with the BNSF in East Olympia. No traffic for the Capital Division enters Tacoma Rail's Tidelands infrastructure. Distribution is provided via the BNSF mainline between Nisqually and East Olympia. This was Tacoma Rail’s first opportunity to operate at up to 50 mph on Centralized Traffic Control mainline speeds. All trains are slotted by a dispatcher located in Fort Worth, Texas.

Rail rates for this division are based on handling carrier agreements with both the UP and the BNSF Railroads.
