Dale King Superintendent Dale King is the railroad’s superintendent having joined the organization in December 2008. He began his career with the Central Railroad Company of New Jersey in 1974 and continued with its successor Conrail. Dale joined Burlington Northern Railroad in 1983 and held several positions in its operations and marketing departments. He moved to Willamette Industries in 1995 and following its acquisition by Weyerhaeuser in 2002 was named Director of Rail Services. In that role Dale was responsible for Weyerhaeuser’s rail operations in North America which included the management of five short line railroads. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Transportation from Arizona State University, an MBA from Indiana University and is a certified member of the American Society of Transportation & Logistics.

Alan Hardy Assistant Superintendent Alan Hardy is the railroad's Assistant Superintendent and has worked for Tacoma Rail since August 2004. Before coming to Tacoma Rail, Hardy worked nine years for the nation's largest and the world's second largest railroad track equipment manufacturer and contract services company as supervisor and manager assigned to the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroads in large scale construction and maintenance contracts. Before that he worked for a very successful short line railroad owned by and serving a Fortune 500 paper company in Florida. He held the positions of signal maintainer, assistant roadmaster and roadmaster during his 21 year career there. Hardy graduated from Wallace Community College in Dothan, Alabama, with a two-year technical degree in electronics. Hardy has completed a variety of railroad-related courses and seminars and has been a member of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association since 1982.

Tim Flood Operations Manager Tim Flood is the operations manager for Tacoma Rail and is responsible for implementing policy and execution of the daily operating plan on three distinct divisions. He supervises employees in the coordination and safe operational movement of all train activities: providing consistent, reliable and efficient rail service to all Tacoma Rail customers - mainline railroads, vendors and service partners. Flood began his railroad career in train service with the BNSF in early 1998; he has served as yardmaster, trainmaster and intermodal hub manager up and down the West Coast. He went to work for Marine Terminals Corporation in 2005 as rail superintendent to start the Pierce County Terminal on-dock rail facility in Tacoma. He joined Tacoma Rail in April 2006 as operations supervisor and was appointed interim operations manager in December 2007; he now holds that postition permanently. Flood has a bachelor's of science degree from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo.

Alan Matheson Roadmaster Alan Matheson is Tacoma Rail's roadmaster responsible for construction and maintenance of the railroad's 204 miles of track, management of Tacoma Rail’s State and Federal grant projects, as well as maintenance of the Utilities fleet of 18 locomotives. Matheson joined Tacoma Rail in July 2005 as a supervisor of operations in the Transportation Section. In the spring of 2006, Matheson transferred to the Maintenance of Way Section. Prior to joining Tacoma Rail, Matheson was general manager of American Orient Express (AOE) Rail Services and was responsible for maintenance and refurbishment of the vintage luxury rail cars. In 2001 when Alan joined AOE, they had a fleet of 18 rail cars; when he left to join the Tacoma Rail team in 2005 he had overseen the expansion of the AOE fleet to 32 rail cars which were in active service in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Dan McCabe Manager of Finance & Technology Dan McCabe is the railroad’s manager of the Finance and Technology section. He manages the car hire, demurrage, tariffs, grant requests, invoicing and technologies. He has received two national awards on behalf of Tacoma Rail for his work in the railroad technology field. His work in writing applications has garnered millions in grants and Rail Bank loans. McCabe has also been a certified locomotive engineer. He first came to Tacoma Public Utilities in the summer of 1998, working for Tacoma Power as an engineer’s aide. Tacoma Rail started giving McCabe projects in 2000 which became a full-time position in 2002 as he became supervisor of Research & Technology. He is a Tacoma native and has a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Western Washington University.

Mike Klass Marketing Manager Mike Klass is the marketing manager for Tacoma Rail, responsible for commercial aspects of the railroad including business, development, sales and relationships with other railroads. His responsibilities include both freight and passenger marketing. Klass started his railroad career as an trainman/mechanic/trackman with the New York and Lake Erie Railroad in 1978. Since 1985 he has been involved in railroad marketing and sales exclusively with Class II and Class III railroads, primarily in the Eastern US and Canada. Klass joined Tacoma Rail in March 2008.

Lori Daniels Operations Manager - Administration Lori Daniels is responsible for various labor relations which include negotiation of collective bargaining agreements under the Railway Labor Act, creation of innovative labor/management strategies, succession planning, recruitment and employee retention; compliance with Federal Railroad Administration regulations; budgetary support and fiscal responsibility. Daniels began her career at TPU in 1989 as a customer service assistant and moved to TPU Human Resources in August 1996. Daniels moved to Tacoma Rail in January 1999 and held the positions of administrative secretary, administrative assistant and supervisor of operations before becoming the Human Resources and Support Services manager in July 2006.
