About shoreline management

A shoreline management plan helps a utility manage multiple resources and uses of hydroelectric project reservoir shorelines in a manner that is consistent with license requirements and project purposes, while addressing needs of the public.

The plan designates different zones along the shoreline and identifies:
  • allowable uses, such as docks or temporary structures, within each zone
  • conditions for allowable uses in order to maintain habitat or aesthetic quality of the reservoir
  • a permit system and sample permit
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which issues project licenses, has required this plan of Tacoma Power. In addition to seeking public input, we are working with other stakeholders:
  • Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife
  • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
  • U.S. Forest Service
  • Mason County
