Get rebates on smart power strips

Even if your electronics are turned off, they may still use power. Smart power strips can help your business save energy by turning off peripheral equipment such as radios, heaters, fans, printers and task lights when not in use.

Smart power strips use one of three technologies – timers, current sensors or occupancy sensors – to determine when equipment should be shut off. Each smart power strip can save up to 100 kWh per year.

Tacoma Power offers a $7 rebate on each qualified smart power strip you buy. To receive the rebate, your smart power strips must be:

  • Connected to workstation peripheral equipment in the Tacoma Power service area
  • Used in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and able to curtail plug load

Additional requirements

Timer-based smart power strips must:

  • Use a digital timer, not mechanical controls
  • Be programmable

Current sensor smart power strips must:

  • Automatically switch off peripheral plug load from the control plug outlet
  • Prohibit false switching by incorporating register-capacitor circuit filters or equivalent

Occupancy sensor smart power strips must:

  • Include a passive infrared occupancy sensor which operates to automatically switch off peripheral plug load from the control plug outlet
