Like other household hazadous waste such as batteries and paint cans, don't throw burned out CFLs into the garbage. Recycling CFLs reuses mercury, glass, metals, plastics and other materials in the bulbs. In addition, CFLs last six to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs, therefore you don't need to dispose of them often.
