Tacoma Water has shut down a northbound lane at 3918 East Portland Ave. because of a water leak that has created an icy and slick surface too dangerous for driving.
The crew on the scene does not yet know whether the leak is from the main water line or on a service line connected to a home – and have not yet established the cause of the leak. To fix the problem, Tacoma Water will need to open up the road surface to examine the pipes, which may close both northbound lanes on Pacific Avenue.
Because of its proximity to an I-5 onramp, many commuters travel Portland Avenue. Tacoma Water recommends taking a different route until the problem is fixed.
Tacoma Water will continue to provide updates on the cause of the problem as well as estimated restoration times.
