People interested in the future of the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery and fishing on the Cowlitz River will have a chance to learn about Tacoma Power’s plans on June 26 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tacoma Power and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will host the meeting, which will take place at Centralia College in Washington Hall.

Besides providing information about the rebuild of the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery, the meeting will allow fishing enthusiasts an opportunity to ask questions about Cowlitz River fisheries management plans and activities.

Tacoma Power Senior Fisheries Biologist Mark LaRiviere will explain the purpose and timeline for the salmon hatchery rebuild, which began this month. Tacoma Power recently awarded a $23 million contract to James W. Fowler Co. of Dallas, Oregon for the construction project.

After the hatchery presentation, meeting attendees can comment and ask questions. Tacoma Power and WDFW representatives will respond to questions.

A public meeting also is scheduled for August 14 to describe planning for improved downstream fish collection at or near Cowlitz Falls Dam.
