CUSTOMER ADVISORY
Jan. 21, 2009
Tacoma Public Utilities customers who receive phone calls with warnings about services shut off are advised that such calls are likely a scam. Utilities employees do not call customers about shutting off services.
Two customers recently received telephone calls from “Rick,” a man claiming to represent either the City of Tacoma or TPU. The man alerted the customers that their water and power would soon be shut off. He also asked one customer if he would like a portable heater.
Tacoma Water only notifies its customers about shutdowns to service for main repairs either in person or by leaving door hangers. Tacoma Power does not give out portable heaters and only notifies its customers about planned outages either in person, by leaving door hangers or by official signage.
