More than 30 Tacoma Public Utilities employees and their family and friends will gather tomorrow morning and put their skills to work to help rebuild hope for a local family.

In a partnership with Rebuilding Together South Sound, the Tacoma Public Utilities team will take care of some needed home repair for a grandmother, her recently widowed daughter and her grandson. Most of the work will revolve around improving accessibility and safety for the grandmother.

By the end of the day, Tacoma Public Utilities employees will have rebuilt a back porch and added a wheelchair ramp, attached loose carpet, installed a stair rail, fixed the front door frame, installed grab bars and added energy-efficient lighting for the family.

“This is a great volunteer opportunity for our employees, who will put some of their unique skills to work and help out someone in need,” said Erika Tucci, Tacoma Public Utilities community relations specialist. “This is the first time we’ve partnered with this organization, but I’m guessing it won’t be the last. Our employees are really excited to put their trade knowledge to good use.”

The volunteer crew will start work at 8 a.m. and will hopefully wrap things up by 5 p.m.
