Alicia, Intern 2006

“If this is your first time in this area, enjoy the views and adventures of Tacoma, Seattle, and the surrounding area. As for the actual internship, I personally enjoyed the opportunity to work on “real-world” projects and tasks. The active involvement with engineers and other key people in the company brought everything about power systems into perspective for me. The many and various outings in the service area also contributed to my clarity in understanding an electric utility. My advice, ask questions and get involved. This internship has a lot to offer, people are willing to share their knowledge and explain in detail, so take full advantage of the opportunity. My fondest memory: The bucket ride. It was a little scary but the view was magnificent!”

Chad, Intern 2006

“Though I had previous intern experience with a utility and some work experience as an engineer, I found my internship at TPU to be very rewarding. I had many specific questions about how a utility operated and how the groups were organized. If someone within my group could not answer my questions, I went to the group who could. Everyone was willing to teach me about their specific area and answer any questions I had. I was able to gain knowledge of both the engineering and business side of the utility. When I wasn’t in the field or learning everything I could about the utility, I was working on a project that was important to TPU. I had a great time with the other interns and gained invaluable experience. I would recommend an internship at TPU to anyone interested in working for a utility. My fondest memory: Being the first TPU employee to step onto the new transmission towers crossing the Tacoma Narrows. It was quit a ride up to the 385’ platform and what a view!”
