COSTS FOR PUBLIC RECORDS REQUESTS

PAPER COPIES BY MAIL

Black & white copies

  • We charge .15 cents per page (8x11).
  • There may be extra charges for rush orders, special mailings, or oversized materials. If you would like us to notify you with an approximate cost of your records before we process them, please include that with your original request.

All fees are set in the Public Records form.

Electronic (e-mail attachments, on disk or other media)

  • We do not currently charge a fee for records sent as an e-mail attachments.
  • We charge for media other than e-mail attachments such as CDs or DVDs.
  • We charge a scanning fee of 10 cents per page, if it applies.
  • Please note some responses contain many pages. We send approximately 100 pages of records an e-mail attachment. We will send multiple e-mails with that size attachment to provide you all of the records. Your server must be able to handle that amount of information in an attachment.

In person at Tacoma Public Utilities

  • There is no fee for inspecting public records
  • You must arrange for inspection ahead of time with the public disclosure officer or designee responding to your request.
  • Inspection times occur from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. weekdays, except state recognized holidays. You can arrange an inspection during a noon hour if staff is available during the noon hour.
  • After inspection, you may ask us to make copies. We will either send them to you electronically or make paper copies.

All payments must be made by cash, money order or check payable to the City Treasurer. (These are the only accepted forms of payment.)

LARGE REQUESTS

May require:

  • A deposit of 10 percent of the estimated cost of copies before they are made.
  • That we provide copies in installments.
  • Require advance payment before providing further installments.

Deposit for duplication
A public records officer or designee may require a deposit equal to 10 percent of the estimated cost prior to duplication of records. In the event that a deposit is required, we will notify you of the necessity for the deposit. If the duplication and deposit fees equal less than the amount you deposit we will return the remainder to you.
